A Centennial Celebration of Ireland's National Theatre
In the early days of the Abbey Theatre two of the most produced playwrights were Lady Augusta Gregory (the founder, along with W.B. Yeats) and John Millington Synge (Playboy of the Western World).
Wilde Irish Presents a staged reading of The Workhouse Ward by Lady Gregory, and In the Shadow of the Glen by J.M. Synge. In these two One Acts through rich, lilting and comedic language, we get a fleeting view of life in rural Ireland under British rule and in the wake of the Great Famine of the 1840s.
