Manuel Rivas On Tour The Rough Magic of Galicia

Manuel Rivas (La Coruña, 1957) is one of Spains most important contemporary writers. From novels and short stories, childrens books, poetry and plays to essays, Rivas covers every genre, varying his stylistic methods between the colloquial language of the man on the street in his homeland of Galicia and a lyrical tone. Rivas literature can be defined as transfrontier, transgressive of genres, an avant-garde of active melancholy. His novel The Carpenters Pencil, which was adapted for the big screen, is the most widely translated work of Galician literature. His latests works are the novel El último día de Terranova and a poetry book A boca da terra/La boca de la tierra. For his book of short storiesVermeers Milkmaid & Other Stories /¿Qué me quieres, amor? that includes Butterfly's Tongue/La lengua de las mariposas (adapted to the screen by Spanish film director Jose Luis Cuerda), Rivas won Spain's National Prize for Literature in 1996.
