The Potato Ball
The Potato Ball, as part of THE BIG POTATO, will be held on October 8, 2016, from 7-10pm. Inspired by a story of how King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette made the potato fashionable by wearing the potato blossoms in her hair and his lapel, we invite our guests to dress formal, in period dress if desired. We will have a social hour, followed by a sit down dinner and dancing.
Tickets: $75 per person Includes: Social Hour with Passed Potato Hors d'oeuvres Sitdown dinner with Potato Stations Potato Dessert & Coffee DJ Music and Dancing Awards for best dressed, and other surprises.
THE BIG POTATO, is a NY Invitational exhibition hosted by Ripe Art Gallery, opening September 24th. Our curator Jeffrey Allen Price is the founder of THINK POTATO, and has invited some of New Yorks most talented artists to create new work with the theme of POTATO. One of the reasons he loves POTATO as a theme is its versatility and wide spectrum of meaning, from its importance as the most nutritious vegetable in the world, to its comedic vernacular usage (potato head, couch potato, etc). POTATO has been used to create an amazing array of foodstuffs, but also has been turned into alcohol, electricity, potato stamps, biodegradable packaging, and much more. Throughout the ages POTATO has been given tribute in songs, movies, jokes and of course, the visual arts. We are excited that THE BIG POTATO will continue in this tradition and inspire new creations.
