K-12 Teachers Clean Energy Workshop

Richland Community College will host the 3rd Annual K-12 Teachers Clean Energy Workshop at the National Sequestration Education Center (NSEC) on July 28, 2016. This knowledge-sharing event will add wind, solar, carbon capture and storage, biofuels, bioenergy, and clean coal educational materials to K-12 teachers Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) curricula.

This year, our primary focus is to have K-12 teachers as workshop exhibitors, highlighting clean energy lesson plans, experiments, and activities from their schools. The workshop will also include an NSEC site tour of wind turbines, solar arrays, prairie plots, biomass furnaces, mobile biofuels lab, seismic display, and interactive carbon capture and storage presentation. We encourage teachers to schedule a follow up tour of the NSEC with their class where students will learn about a variety of renewable energy resources and sustainability practices at one location.

We hope to have many Illinois K-12 teachers as exhibitors and attendees. Booth space and registration are free of charge. All teachers will receive 7 Professional Development Hours and The Green Guide: A Curriculum of Global Sustainability and companion Teachers Tool Kit. The workshop will include continental breakfast, lunch, and beverage service.
