Event
Short Stories Live! The World of Asian Fairy Tales
Sunday, June 3 at 4 pm
Wit and wisdom characterize these Chinese, Japanese, and Indian fairy tales chosen by ACT Artistic Director Kurt Beattie. In them, a range of protagonists - men and women, commoners and kings - learns something about humanity's capacity for a higher consciousness and our frail ability to achieve it. Stories include "Vishvamitra," from Valmiki's Ramayana; "The Wizard's Lesson" by Li Fu-yen; "Li Chi Slays the Serpent" by Sou Shen Chi; "Fifteen Honest Coins," a traditional Chinese folk story; and the traditional Japanese tale "The Wizard of the Mountains." Beatty directs the program - and reads, along with actors Kathy Hsieh and Khanh Doan. Presented by Town Hall in partnership with ACT Theatre.
