Tony Kelly, artistic director of Thick Description, will make his TJT debut as director of Greenspans Dead Mother, Or Shirley Not All in Vain. The cast features TJT co-founder Corey Fischer, and guest artists Liam Vincent, Deb Fink, Dena Martinez, Gabe Marin, and Louis Parnell.
Highly regarded in the New York off-Broadway theater world, Greenspan will be reworking his critically acclaimed play for this West Coast debut. Dead Mother has only been produced once before, in 1991 at New Yorks Public Theatre. The matrix of the play is a contretemps in which a man accedes to his brother's request to assume the character of their dead mother resulting in a gender-bending farce tackling questions of identity religious, sexual, political and ethnic.
This play is not suitable for children.
