Susan Morgan: Information Technology and Freedom of Expression in a Changing Wor
All over the world from the Americas to Europe to the Middle East to Africa and Asia companies specializing in information & communications technology face increasing governmental pressure to comply with laws and policies that may conflict with internationally recognized human rights of freedom of expression and privacy. In response, a group of companies (Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo!), civil society organizations, investors, and academics have formed the Global Network Initiative. Its director, Susan Morgan, speaks on the challenges faced by this unlikely coalition, highlighting recent events in the Middle East, and how GNI is addressing them.
