The Colored Museum is a collection of vignettes exploring racial themes consistently visited upon African-american art.
Here, nothing is taboo as the show explores stereo-types in the African-American entertainment tradition, from Vaudeville revues to the church.
Have we fallen prey to an American society that wishes to see people of color as one dimensional stereotypes? 7 actors riff between archetypes of Mammy, Jezebel, Moms Mabley/Madea, The sell-out and the angry black man. This Broadway hit inspired the TV show IN LIVING COLOR. Join us as we encourage you to laugh and to decide which images are healthy, and which fall into a legacy of buffoonery.
