April Chapter Meeting

People spend most of their lives in and around buildings, yet often take for granted their relationships with them. As the world becomes increasingly dominated by the visual and virtual, we can forget how intertwined we are with the environment surrounding us. Design can contribute to that forgettingthrough placeless objects, ubiquitous spaces, mass-produced materials, and climate-controlled interiors. Or, design can intervene and engage our senses, connecting us to place, evoking memory, and opening us to new possibilities.
Through a survey of the work of Aidlin Darling Design, this presentation will explore qualitative aspects of progressive green design with a focus on designing for all of the senses and for the human spirit. The presentation will describe an immersive and collaborative design process with an emphasis on site sensitivity and the re-use of existing buildings and materials.
