Oakland and the roots of the Food Justice Movement in East Oakland
Dear friends and supporters,

Oakland Food Connection is bringing Community Food Parties back in effort to stimulate an explosion of grassroots food justice organizing in Oakland!

Sunday, October 22nd ~ 3pm - 5:30 pm.

Our brunch's theme is "Oakland and the Roots of the Food Justice Movement in East Oakland."

This event is held at the private residence of Michael Duhon and Lawrence Ellis, as a fundraisr for Oakland Food Connection's "Healthy Food for All" campaign. Funds from this event will go toward purchasing a mobile kitchen unit that will aid OFC's mission in connecting healthier sources of food and nutrition education services to low-income communities of color throughout east Oakland.

All of our food is sourced from local farms: J&P Organics,Hidden Star Orchards and OFC's backyard and school gardens that use beyond organic practices. You'll meet fellow Food Justice movement builders and supporters while  enjoying a bountiful summer menu of delicious delectable foods prepared by surprise special guest chefs Michael Duhon and Gramcrackah!

Featured community thought dialogue is Jason A. Harvey, founder and executive director of Oakland Food Connection. He will speak about his work and "What are the roots of the Food Justice Movement in East Oakland, and what can you do to shift the movement forward to the people?"

Through building gardens with schools and community groups, doing garden-based ecological and nutrition education, and teaching youth to grow, prepare, and sell food at affordable prices to east Oakland residents, OFC promotes nutritional awareness, access to healthy foods and connections between people and our planet.

3pm: Meet and greet with light appetizers

4pm : multi-course dinner prepared by chefs Michael Duhon and Gramcrackah

4:30pm Thought Dialog with Food Justice Leaders Jason A. Harvey

4:45 - 5:30pm: Acknowledging commitments, moving into action, desserts and networking.

5:50pm: event ends.

I look forward to seeing you all soon!
