A SOLDIER'S PLAY
This Pulitzer Prize winning play by Charles Fuller which he adapted for the Academy Award nominated movie version, A SOLDIER'S STORY, is, on the surface, a murder mystery set on a segregated army base in Louisiana in 1944. It goes far beyond this premise, however, in exploring the racial divide existing in the armed forces at that time, and by probing the torment of a black sergeant intent on purging his own demons.
