Tahqua at Seattle Center
Kooeex (pronounced coo-eek) is the Tlingit word for potlatch. The potlatch is a festival or ceremony practiced among Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. At these gatherings a family or hereditary leader hosts guests in his familys house and holds a feast for them. The main purpose of the potlatch is the re-distribution and reciprocity of wealth. This way, those who have great wealth share with those who have little or nothing, thereby strengthening the whole society. In Kooeex, Tahqua's great wealth is cultural. And they're planning to share with Giant Magnet audiences their abundance of humor, musicality, artistic expertise and spirit in an hour-long kooeex for the senses.
