Cars, people, buildings and street furniture -- lets try the easy way first! Take your first steps into urban sketching using simple tools and practical tips that anyone can follow. I will demonstrate, then you try. Perfection not required. Combine basic drawing, writing, lettering shortcuts and ephemera for a fun day on location with your urban sketchbook. Adapt your new skills to fill your nature and travel journals, too.

* Use shortcuts to start drawing cars, buildings and street scenes. * Simplify the figure with six brush strokes. * Create five text styles with your own handwriting. * Maximize your colors with water-soluble media. * Combine text, headlines and sketches for journal pages that capture the day. * Highlight on alleys and buildings: street furniture, cars (inside the box) * One basic layout that always works

Required:
* Pentalic Aqua Journal * Mechanical pencil * Eraser * 1 black waterproof pen * 1 black water-soluble ink pen * White gel pen * Waterbrush * Watercolor pencils or water-soluble crayons * Pencil sharpener * Tiny travel bottle with clean water * Pack of tissues or 1 folded paper towel
Instructor will supply mechanical pencils and glue sticks.
Michele Cooper is a fine artist living in the Seattle area. She has been teaching watercolor since 1980. She teaches at Skagit Valley College and Kirkland Arts Center and has led traveling watercolor workshops in the US, Canada, Italy and France.
