Thoughts of Mary - Reunion Show
Thoughts of Mary - 28th anniversary reunion show
Thoughts of Mary, a Baton Rouge-based band who rose to regional fame in the early 90s are planning to reunite for a concert on Saturday, April 18 at the Red Dragon Listening Room (2401 Florida Street in Baton Rouge)
Thoughts of Mary formed in 1992 when LSU students Marc Daigle and Gabe Daigle (no relation) decided to form a band with classmate Joel Dicharry. They soon asked friends Bill Rhodes and Keith Simoneaux to join the band. The band began playing covers in Baton Rouge area clubs but quickly took to crafting their own songs. With influences ranging from the Replacements and Buffalo Tom to Neil Young, they started to forge an original sound that blended early 80s college rock with heavier alternative rock sounds of the day.
The band paid their dues at fraternity parties and area clubs including the Varsity Theatre. They began to tour throughout Louisiana and the Southeastern U.S. and in the process built a loyal fanbase. In 1993, they recorded the cd, "Paper, Rock, Scissors", which yielded the regional radio hit, "Anymore". Along the way, the band shared stages with Better than Ezra, Cowboy Mouth, Echo and the Bunnymen, the Gin Blossoms, Soul Hat, and many others. Toward the end of 1994, the band disbanded to pursue other projects. Their final gig was a sold out show at the Varsity Theatre.
In early 2007, the band played their first reunion show at Chelseas Café in Baton Rouge that was well attended. A second reunion show took place at the Hartley Vey Theater on their 20th anniversary in 2012. Both shows were so much fun that the band decided to do it again.
Thoughts of Mary will play the Dragon on Saturday, April 18 at 8pm. Local band, the Bedlamville Triflers, open the show. Online seating link is thoughtsofmarydragon.brownpapertickets.com
