Tales of Peter Rabbit (Magnuson Park Theatre)
Thistle Theatre, a puppet theatre for families, presents:
Beatrix Potters
TALES OF PETER RABBIT

The Tale of Peter Rabbit and The Tale of Benjamin Bunny are combined to reveal the beloved world of Beatrix Potter. On a beautiful summer morning the lovable hedgehog, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, merrily journeys to the fir tree home of Mrs. Rabbit. She is delivering the freshly washed clothes of Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. Little does she know that Peter is going to wear his clean blue jacket on a dangerous adventure in Mr. McGregors garden!

Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) was born in London but spent most of her adult life in Sawrey, West Morland County in northern England. Potter spent much of her time creating detailed drawings of the local flora and fauna and wished to publish a book on her botanical studies. When this proved unsuccessful, she turned to creating small children's stories with beautiful drawings. The Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1893 and Beatrix Potter paid to have it published in 1900 as a gift for one child. This one child's gift has pleased thousands upon thousands of children ever since.

Founding Artistic Director Jean Enticknap was awarded an Artist Trust Grant for creating
Tales of Peter Rabbit using Bunraku-style puppets. Thistle Theatre specializes in the Bunraku-style of puppetry, an ancient Japanese art form.  Although the style has been modified for modern audiences and performers, the basic idea remains the same: puppeteers, dressed entirely in black to symbolize their invisibility, operate the puppets. Ben Burris, Amy Escobar and Gina Wilhelm are the puppeteers directed by Jean Enticknap.  Michael Flint created the musical score and V. Kay Petersen wrote the songs.

Funded in part by 4Culture/King County Lodging Tax.
