Town Hall's world-performance series Global Rhythms opens its 2009-10 season with the West Coast debut of the ground-breaking Khoomei-Taiko Ensemble, a unique collaboration featuring internationally-renowned Japanese and Mongolian artists together exploring the rich traditions and contemporary sounds of their musical cultures. Performers in this extraordinary six-member ensemble include fue/flute player, taiko drummer and former KODO member Kaoru Watanabe; noted Japanese koto player Miki Maruta; Khongorzul Ganbaatar, master of the Mongolian Long Song and a member of Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Project; horsehead fiddle player Tserendorj Tseyen; and throat (Khoomei) singer Shinetsog Dorjnyam. The ensemble is presented in collaboration with the 2009 Earshot Jazz Festival.
