Droma Fest 08 presents Zlatne Uste Brass Band + Polka Madre & DJ Nohmada
The Droma Gypsy Festival 2008 will bring over a dozen Gypsy and Gypsy-influenced artists from Europe and the US to NYC for 9 days of colorful Gypsy spirit (Sept 24 - Oct 3). In its 4th year running, the festival will once again present the breadth of contemporary Gypsy music from all over the world with a line-up that includes bands which preserve the original musical forms as well as others that mix it up with electronica, jazz, dub and European-style cabaret.
An internationally known group playing traditional music of Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Romany (Gypsy) traditions and four-time invited guest at the Dragachevo Brass Festival in Gucha, Serbia. After two and a half years since its formation in Mexico City, Polka Madres principle influences lie in Jewish music and the old sounds of Gypsy and Eastern European cultures from euphoric polkas, melancholic waltzes to punk, rock and passages of classical music. Nohmada is a Belgian DJ duo who bring the best of Gitane (Gypsy), Balkan & world music to the clubs for a full-on party.
Doors open at 6 pm.
