Kawayan Folk Arts presents "Makiling: The Lady in the Mountain"
Kawayan Folk Arts, in partnership with the Asian Pacific Islander Chapter of the Santa Clara University Alumni Association, presents "Makiling: The Lady in the Mountain."
"Makiling" takes a unique approach connecting ethnic and folk dance pieces through a narrative based on the Maria Makiling legends of the Philippines. The show will feature original and adapted ethnic music, dances, costumes, and props reflective of the characters in the myth and cultures of the islands. The production features the magical spirit of the mountain, Maria Makiling, who is fascinated by the people of the Laguna de Bay and surrounding areas and often finds ways into their lives.
The show is inspired from cultures as varied as the Bagobo of Davao del Sur, the island of Leyte, and the highlands of the Kalinga tribes in Mountain Province.
A Reception will be held before the event from 5:30-6:30 in the Mayer Theatre lobby. Hosted Appetizers. No host cash bar. Location details coming soon.
