EXIT Theatre

San Francisco

EXIT Theatre operates five storefront theaters in downtown San Francisco that present a large variety of independent performance in a bohemian cabaret atmosphere.
Founded in 1983 EXIT Theatre also annually produces the San Francisco Fringe Festival, the largest grass roots theater festival in the Bay Area, and DIVAfest, dedicated to creating new work by women writers.

Paper Wings

More intricate than lace, or more fragile than a thread of a spiders silk in sunlight, whimsical as the ornaments in music boxes and fancy clocks: artist Sha Sha Higby sculptures are complex and layered, informed by her experiences in Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and India. Yet more than mere visual delights, these sculptures are made to move with her living body as the driving force. Meticulously crafted over the course of years, her sculptural costumes use paper, wood, leaves, silk, lacquer, ceramics, and gold leaf to make creatures somewhere between the natural and the divine. Guided by the relentlessly cheerful ashram guru, Purnima, Amanda reflects deeply on mortality and the workings of her mind, learning to let go and surrender to the present moment. By engaging the audience in chanting, breathing practices, meditation, and simple movements, she invites them to do the same.

Las Vegas is a land where magical realism collides with 'Stars that are Living' and 'Stars that are Dead'. Carmelita prays for guidance, which may come from an unexpected source.

The Pandora Experiment

In 2007, Magician and EXIT Theatre Artist in Residence Christian Cagigal, made a splash with his first hybrid of illusion and theatre, "The Pandora Experiment." Word of mouth spread of this strange and intimate journey audiences went on, leading to sold out houses and three return engagements. After eight years, three other shows, and traveling the world, Cagigal returns to his first original work, opening Halloween weekend. This is a newer, sharper version of the original "Pandora." But, just like before, Christian Cagigal will take your hand and be your guide as he introduces you to a doll...a music box...and your own mind.
