Joshua Davis
June 07, 2013 8:00 PM
This is my event.
Joshua Davis will be promoting his new album. A Miracle of Birds In February of 2012, I joined the non-profit organization On the Ground for the Run Across Palestine and what was to be a truly life-changing journey. The focus of the 5 day, 129 mile ultra marathon was to raise funds and awareness in support of fair-trade olive farming communities in the Palestinian West Bank. The stories and songs on 'A Miracle of Birds', released one year after the run, are honest expressions of my experiences in the West Bank, colored by my own unique history and upbringing. |

RFD Boys Bluegrass
July 06, 2013 8:00 PM
This is my event.
The RFD Boys have been delighting Ann Arbor audiences since 1969 with their fabulous musicianship and sly, exquisitely timed between-song humor. With an appearance on the cover of Bluegrass Unlimited, with songs recorded by the likes of the Country Gentlemen, and with performances alongside bluegrass greats like Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley, the RFD Boys are a part of America's bluegrass tradition. One of southeastern Michigan's most durable musical ensembles, they're very much a local tradition, too. |

Breathe Owl Breathe
August 22, 2013 8:00 PM
This is my event.
Comprised of Micah Middaugh (guitar, vocals), Andréa Moreno-Beals (cello, vocals) and Trevor Hobbs (percussion), the Michigan trio Breathe Owl Breathe have a knack for wrapping universal emotions in childlike language. In the gorgeous, loping "Playing Dead," from their eMusic Selects EP, Ghost Glacier, a playground game slowly develops into a metaphor for longing and loneliness; "Sabertooth Tiger" is simultaneously about imaginary friends and the desire for protection. The band's music is terrifically disarming, Middaugh's cracked tenor ambling over acoustic guitars, Moreno-Beals' cello swooping in gracefully, like a warm breeze or a host of doves. It's the soundtrack to the Brothers Grimm, a lively stroll through the enchanted forest. J. Edward Keyes |

Red Tail Ring
September 08, 2013 8:00 PM
This is my event.
Red Tail Ring is the musical brainchild of two old-time-minded Michiganders Michael Beauchamp and Laurel Premo. The collaboration blends the loving attention of revivalist fervor with the playful creativity of starting from scratch. Whether rendering a traditional tune or one of their many original compositions, the duo infuses each song with musical imagination, haunting harmonies and instrumental artistry. "We love pushing the boundaries of what a traditional song can be," says Beauchamp. "It informs how we write our original songs. There's a real energy exchange between the old and the new." This two-way connection between old and new takes center stage in Red Tail Ring's latest studio recordings, released in April 2011. This two part project features Premo and Beauchamp's original songs as well as their interpretations of Appalachian and folk tunes. As Premo explains, "We want to show references of the traditional forms that have inspired us in our new writing." |

Harvest Moon Dance with Switchback
October 19, 2013 8:00 PM
This is my event.
For over two decades, the musical partnership of Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack, known as Switchback, has been entertaining audiences around the world with their unique American Roots music blended with Celtic Soul. In 1986, FitzGerald was a mandolin student of Jethro Burns and had already been touring with Clifton Chenier when he met McCormack, an award-winning voice student of Whelma Oshiem at the American Conservatory of Chicago and a member of the Star Search selected band Beyond Blue. They were both chosen by legendary County Kerry composer and concertina master Terrence 'Cuz' Teahan to join his traditional Irish group. Teahan taught FitzGerald and McCormack the old country techniques of Irish musical entertainment, making them one of the last generations to be directly influenced by a master of this musical genre. |
