The Seattle Baroque Orchestra was founded by Music Director Ingrid Matthews and harpsichordist Byron Schenkman, two top performers in the field of early music. With the group's debut in 1994, Seattle acquired what has become known as one of this country's hottest period-instrument ensembles. In addition to winning loyal fans at home for the excitement of their live performances, Seattle Baroque Orchestra has been heard across North America on National Public Radio broadcasts and has garnered rave reviews in the international press for six recordings.
SBO MISSION:
The goal of Seattle Baroque Orchestra is to awaken contemporary audiences to the vitality of 17th and 18th-century music through historically informed performances, recordings and educational programs to foster awareness and appreciation of this music, which not only illuminates past eras but provides a unique lens in which to view our own.
