Believing each of us has a stake in nurturing every child's potential, Berkeley Public Schools Fund mobilizes the community's financial and volunteer resources to directly support students and educators in Berkeley's Pre-K through 12th grades.
Berkeley Public Schools Fund pursues its mission by 1) raising private funds that are directed into over 250 grants in response to educator and organizational proposals for investments in e.g. curriculum supplements, teacher professional development, teaching tools/equipment, visual and performing arts activities, special education resources, bi-lingual and culturally-responsive teaching materials, field trips, guest instructors, after school tutoring; 2) recruiting, training and placing over 1,000 community volunteers in classrooms, gardens, libraries, and after school programs through our Berkeley Schools Volunteers; and 3) providing leadership and administrative support through a range of special projects including: building campaigns; efforts to sustain and strengthen focused programs such as music and visual arts, literacy, and elementary science; serving as fiscal sponsor for designated project funds supporting programs in the schools, e.g. the Berkeley High School Health Center's grant-supported education and counseling programs; and fostering various collaborations to address needs identified within the district or schools.
