Northern Virginia j.talks - Mathew Klickstein
Angelika Film Center & Cafe at Mosaic
Fairfax, VA
Share this event:

It's Throwback Thursday! Catch the shuttle at the Dunn Loring Metro to the Mosaic District. Come early and enjoy great food at the Angelika Cafe or one of the many area restaurants. Angelika has craft beer and wines for you to enjoy during Mathew's talk (his talk includes great video clips). And there's Nickelodeon trivia in the lounge after the talk!!

"SLIMED! An Oral History of Nickelodeon's Golden Age" culls together interviews with 250 creative VIPs involved with the creation of Nickelodeon. Mathew Klickstein has written a fun-filled, nostalgic and fascinating in-depth chronicle of how the First Kids' Network came to shine a vibrant new "kid-like" light on the cultural landscape ... with resonance reaching even to the Jewish community and including first-hand accounts by the likes of Nickelodeon's own Marc Summers, all told from those who made it happen!

"Somewhere between a tribute, a belated yearbook, and an autopsy, SLIMED! attempts to figure out--with the help of nearly 200 performers, writers, producers, and execs who worked at the network between 1985 and 2000--how a fledgling channel with virtually no original programming identified, captured, and entertained the hell out of its preteen demographic.... SLIMED! is the best kind of blast from the past: dishy, unwholesome, and thought-provoking enough to make you question your own memories." - Village Voice

From Mathew's FAQ section of his website (http://www.slimedthebook.com/faq/)
What's with Mathew Klickstein's orange Nick hat and blue shirt with that weird logo on it? I'm confused. Confused and hungry. The hat's a simple one. Older folks may remember the classic "Nickelodeon painter's hat" that was worn by Nick crew and contestant winners. Yes, that is a real-deal vintage Nickelodeon painter's hat from Back in the Day. Came from Nick's first Creative Director, Mr. Scott Webb (read more about him and his adventures in SLIMED!). Want to know how to get an original Nick painter's hat yourself? Simple! Just write a book about Nickelodeon. And two: Good second part of the question! Mathew Klickstein's shirt exhibits a Kids of Widney High logo. The KOWH is a rock band based out of Los Angeles comprised of musicians with developmental disabilities. Mathew has worked with the Kids for more than a decade, loves their music and continues to develop projects with them. You can see more about the KOWH at www.KidsOfWidneyHigh.com and/or via the AUTHOR section of this website (HINT: Check them out!).
