Rum and Cookies a New Play
Written by: Matt Mancuso Directed by: Hunter C. Smith
Featuring: Matt Mancuso and Pamela Portnoy.
Synopsis: On a late New York night, Jen (Pamela Portnoy) shows up at the apartment of her best friend Max (Matt Mancuso). Having just returned from a year-long stay in Italy, Max is relatively surprised to see her. Considering the two of them haven't talked to each other for the last seven months, they have a lot to talk about. Max and Jen have always been able to talk to each other, but for some reason the night gets off to a rocky start. Thanks to some social lubrication, beer and rum, and some well placed snack foods, chocolate chip cookies, the two are able to find their old groove again but they soon come to realize that there is more between them than they ever really knew.
Matt Mancuso (Playwright/Max): Matt Mancuso was born to be performer. At the tender age of six, he told his mom that he wanted to be a singer even when he couldn't hold a note yet. Hailing from the east coast, Matt moved out to the LA to continue to pursue his acting career. Matt's passion for theatre was instilled in him by his parents and he would like to thank them for all their encouragement and help throughout the years. He couldn't be more excited to be working with two wonderful and gifted artists and is looking forward to bringing this thrilling, human story to life for all of you.
Pamela Portnoy (Jen): Pamela Portnoy fell in love with acting at the age of five. Pamela is a graduate from the University of California Irvine and has a bachelor's degree in Film and Media Studies. She also graduated from the Joanne Baron and D.W. Brown Studio in Santa Monica, and currently studies with Helen Anzalone Gordon. Her stage and film credits include performances in the Repertory East Playhouse's production of Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, Film Independent's Alice, TTBM Productions' Breaking Up and Away, and the new hilarious web series Pretty, Dumb. She would like to thank her wonderful family; whose support has meant more than words can ever say.
Hunter C. Smith (Director): Hunter C. Smith is an artist who wears many hats. Actor, stunt combatant, fight choreographer, and now director. Texas born and bred, Hunter has embraced the City of Angels as a hub for artists and is so pleased to have found so many opportunities to create and collaborate. Recent credits include: Casca, Julius Caesar, Miles Playhouse; U/S Gentleman, 2nd U/S Goneril, LEAR, Theatricum Botanicum. Having a profound love for theatre as well as film, Hunter is thrilled to direct this inaugural production of Polymath Theatre Company, Rum and Cookies, written by our own Matt Mancuso. Hunter would like to extend a deep and heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and family who have stuck with him.
