Exploring the Spring Skies over Pepperwood

This spring's sky will feature a mini "planetfest," including Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn, and with a fat crescent Moon joining the party! Guided by expert stargazers, Bing Quock, of the California Academy of Sciences' Morrison Planetarium and Ron Dammann of the Fremont Peak Observatory Association, view the moons of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn, and the craters on the surface of our own Moon through the vintage telescopes of Pepperwood's Hume Observatory. Between glimpses through the telescopes, learn to identify constellations and keep your eyes peeled for meteors or satellites! We'll start at the Dwight Center for an introductory presentation while the sun sets, followed by a short 1/4 mile trek to the Observatory. In the event of cloudy skies, observing will be replaced with a talk at the Dwight Center about current developments in astronomy and space science.
