PRESENT
"TRILOGIA PARA JUAN RULFO"/ "TRILOGY FOR JUAN RULFO"
Directed by Germán Jaramillo

"TRILOGY FOR JUAN RULFO"  brings NYC Mexican immigrants to the stage to perform three short plays that reflect the immigrant experience.

Inspired by Juan Rulfo's short stories from his collection "The Burning Plain" (El llano en llamas), ID STUDIO THEATER presents The TRILOGY FOR JUAN RULFO: "Foolish Disciple," "Passage to the North" and "Tell them not to Kill me!".  These three unique plays, performed by Mexican Immigrant laborers in New York City alongside seasoned and professional actors bring to the stage a retelling of Rulfo's timeless tales of poverty, struggle and hope. From the comic spirit of "THE FOOLISH DISCIPLE," to the all-too-familiar stories of migration to the North in search of a better life in "PASSAGE TO THE NORTH," and the violence generated by the desperate poverty of "TELL THEM NOT TO KILL ME," all create very personal interpretations and intimate performances that reflect the experience of New York City's immigrant community.

Original music by Pablo Mayor
Movement by Daniel Fetecua
Lighting by Miguel Angel Valderrama

Germán Jaramillo (Director) is the co-founder of one of the most important repertory theater company in Colombia, the Teatro Libre, and its School of Acting. Several of his roles earned him recognition as best theater actor of the year. In 2000 he starred in the internationally acclaimed film La Virgen de los Sicarios (Our Lady of the Assassins), directed by Barbet Schroeder, and was awarded the Gold Medal in the Venice Film Festival (2000) where he was nominated for best actor. He founded ID STUDIO THEATER in 2001, and has recently received ATI and ACE prizes for Best Actor in Spanish in 2014 for his performance in Repertorio Español's "Cita a Ciegas."

For ten years, ID STUDIO THEATER has focused on the creation of new audiences and performers among immigrant communities in New York, particularly from Latin America, with an emphasis on groups that have little access to mainstream culture and educational opportunities. By tapping into the rich artistic resources of Latin American countries, the company's work establishes a dialogue between cultures that stimulates creativity and strengthens and integrates immigrant community members through the performing arts.
