Master Class with Vicky Shick

About the Artist
Vicky Shick has been involved with the New York dance community for over three decades as performer, choreographer and teacher. During her years with the Trisha Brown Company (1980-1986), she received a New York Dance and Performance Award, a "Bessie," for performance. She has been making dances since the mid-eighties, and over the last ten years has created six evening length pieces with her collaborators visual artist, Barbara Kilpatrick and sound designer, Elise Kermani. Their 2003 piece, "Undoing," received a "Bessie" for "outstanding creative achievement," and their 2013 piece, "Everything You See" presented at Danspace Project in NYC was nominated for a "Bessie" for "outstanding production." It was presented again in January 2014 at The Joyce Theatre's Focus Dance Festival. This past April, they presented their seventh collaborative work, "Miniatures in Detail," at The West End Theatre in NYC. Shick has taught and restaged Trisha Brown's work in festivals and at universities in the United States and Europe, including her hometown, Budapest. Colleges where she has created dances on students include Arizona State University, Barnard College and George Washington University. Shick has also worked with many other performers and choreographers, including Yoshiko Chuma, Risa Jaroslow, Eva Karczag, Lisa Kraus, Stephen Petronio, Wendy Perron, Susan Rethorst, Sara Rudner, and more recently with Jon Kinzel, Juliette Mapp and Jodi Melnick. In the New York City area, Shick has taught at Hunter College, Princeton University, The New School, for the Trisha Brown Company and at Movement Research. She is a 2006 grant recipient from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts and a 2008-2009 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow
