Five Animals Play Spontaneous Qi Gong
The famous physician Hua To in Third century China, created a set of chi kung exercises known as the Five Animals Play. These exercises, based on the movements of the monkey, bear, tiger, deer, and crane, were designed to promote health through the development and manipulation of chi.
Five Animals Play is a spontaneous form of QI Gong, differing from more passive or dynamic forms where particular movements are taught and learned to direct Chi through the breath. In Five Animals Play, energy moves the body spontaneously (unplanned and involuntary) for the practitioner in a self-healing capacity. Energy or Qi freely circulates and clears blockages in the meridians and self-massage, slapping, hitting acupuncture points may happen.
