Found Stages Presents BEULAH CREEK at Dunwoody Nature Center
Beulah Creek takes place during the summer of 1936 amidst a Baptist camp meeting in South Georgia. When the pastorʼs wife Ruth meets Iris, the WPA photographer documenting the revival, an unexpected relationship develops and challenges the societal norms of the time. A chorus of women sing Southern hymns and speak biblical text to give Ruth a means of expressing the feelings she does not know or dare to name. When the revival participants grow suspicious of the relationship, Ruth must choose between Iris and the community in which she was raised.
Written specifically for the natural space of the Dunwoody Nature Center, audience members will travel with Ruth and Iris to different outdoor locations led by the chorus. Cornbread and milk will be shared with the audience during the final scene.
Written by Atlanta Playwright Neeley Gossett (2013 Finalist, Alliance Theatre Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition)
Featuring performances by Daryl Fazio, Mary Saville, Julie Puckett, Liz Schad, Rachel Frawley and Elin Rose Hill
