Poetry and Motion Presents: An Evening of Storytelling and Dance is an evening length show featuring work by Natalie Richardson and Drew Lewis.
"Bloodlines," written by Natalie Richardson, is an experimental piece exploring the voices of her father's ancestors. Through their poetic narratives, the audience is transported through a lineage of dysfunction, disruption, and dissolution, ultimately arriving at the institution of slavery as the root of all strife.
"Rem's Tech" is a dance piece created by Drew Lewis, Maddie Schimmel, and Sinclair Davis. This piece explores the many layers of the human consciousness, and how as people we are affected by our dreams, thoughts, fears, memories and technology.
Natalie Richardson is a second year undergraduate at The University of Chicago. She is the winner of the Poetry Society of America's Lousie Louis/ Emily F. Bourne Student Award and was a member of the inaugural class of National Student Poets, the highest award for youth writers given to five students nationally by Scholastic and the President's Committee on the Arts & The Humanities. She competed in "Louder Than A Bomb," the world's largest teen poetry slam, for three consecutive years, and is currently the coach of The University of Chicago Lab School slam team.
Drew Lewis is a second year dance student at Cornish College of the Arts, though he is a Chicago native. Lewis's choreography has won the Illinois High School Dance Festival Choreography Competition two years in a row. He has studied at The Academy of Movement and Music, The Ailey School, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, and Cornish College of the Arts. He was recently accepted into the scholarship program at Lou Conte Dance Studio, and the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Summer Intensive. His performance credits include Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as part of The Memoria Project, and MOMENTA Performing Arts Company.
