1. What is Sones de México Ensemble?
Since 1994, Sones de México Ensemble2 has been a musical ambassador of Mexico's native music treasures: huapangos, gustos, chilenas, son jarocho, son planeco, son de marimba, jaranas, polkas, and other regional styles.
The ensemble is a multi-instrumentalist sextet that specializes in a large family of regional styles of folk music from Mexico. Many of these styles fall under the generic name of "son," hence the name of the group. The various regional styles of son are qualified by the region they came from: son huasteco (from the Huasteca region), son planeco (from El Plan), son calentano (from Tierra Caliente region), son jarocho (from Veracruz), etc.
2. Why support Sones de México?
Sones de México Ensemble is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to professionally promote a greater appreciation of Mexican folk and traditional music in the U.S. Individual tickets and fees do not cover the expenses of our programs. We need your help to continue our educational mission.
The organization has produced over 1,000 concerts in 30 different states, six studio albums, two GRAMMY Award Nominations, a syndicated radio show called "La Hora del Son," and 20 years of bringing innovative educational programs to tens of thousands of people of all ages and nationalities.
Investing in Sones de Mexico will help us realize ambitious plans for the future, including opening a Mexican music school to bring up the next generation of musicians who will carry on these musical traditions.
We can't do this alone! In order to become a more stable organization, the Board of Directors is developing a circle of friends and supporters who believe in the mission and who is willing to help in big and small ways. This will ensure that Sones de México will continue its important work for generations to come. Please join our circle of supporters and help us get there!
