Biographical Information:
Debra Farrar-Schneider, Ph.D., H.S.P.P., BCBA-D, IMH-E(IV), is a licensed clinical psychologist, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral, and an Infant Mental Health Mentor. She has worked with individuals with developmental disabilities for over 25 years. She completed her master's and doctoral degrees at Louisiana State University, where her clinical and research experience included children with autism spectrum disorders, as well as academic and behavioral difficulties. She completed her pre-doctoral internship in the Department of Behavioral Psychology at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. After moving to Valparaiso, Indiana, Dr. Farrar-Schneider established Behavior Specialists of Indiana (BSI) in April 1998 to provide behavioral services in northwest Indiana. BSI has developed into a company having two locations (i.e., Valparaiso and Merrillville), offering several types of therapy (i.e., behavioral, music, recreational), employing 35 individuals, and serving over 300 clients.
In addition to several articles regarding behavioral treatments, Dr. Farrar-Schneider has published a book chapter, Aggression and noncompliance: Behavior modification, in J.L. Matson's Autism in children and adults: Etiology, assessment, and intervention. She has presented symposia, papers, and posters for organizations, including the Association for Behavior Analysis, the National Association of School Psychologists, and the Northwest Indiana Early Childhood Conference. Dr. Farrar-Schneider is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Behavior Analysis International.
