Wine and Stars at Reverie

Join us for a weekend of wine tasting, delicious cuisine, and stargazing. The weekend begins with lunch on Friday, allowing time for a leisurely morning drive to ensure a timely arrival by 1 pm. We will enjoy wine tasting on Friday at 5pm followed by a three-course dinner paired with wines from the El Dorado wine region. Saturday we pile on the wine bus for a full day of tasting in the Fairplay appellation, stopping at three wineries and enjoying a gourmet lunch along the way. We love the Fairplay wineries because they offer an intimate tasting experience with the owner or winemaker often working the tasting room -- but that doesn't mean the wines are not interesting or complex! Fairplay is a relatively young appellation that is still trying to figure out what it wants to be, with winemakers and growers experimenting across the board both with the grapes they are growing and what they are doing with them. Fairplay offers the visitor the rare opportunity to experience a burgeoning wine region in an intimate and personal setting without the crowds -- what Napa and Sonoma were like 30 years ago.

Saturday evening we will turn our gaze to the stars with the help of a high-powered telescope and a local astronomer who will be on hand to help us explore the night sky on this evening of the new moon, when the stars should be spectacular away from the city lights. Sunday will be free time to explore the property, take a dunk in the pond, or just laze the day away in a hammock.

All meals and hydrating beverages are provided throughout the weekend, including lunch on Friday, a three-course dinner with wine pairing on Friday night; a continental breakfast, gourmet picnic lunch and dinner on Saturday; and brunch on Sunday. The Reverie kitchen specializes in hyper-seasonal and hyper-local fare prepared with ingredients grown on-site in our own gardens and from local farms and ranches. Most dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice (at least one week).

Please note that this is a camping event, and you need to bring your own gear. Details on schedule and logistics will be provided once confirmation of payment has been received.

Reverie Retreat is 32 acres of seclusion located in the Sierra foothills on the Georgetown Divide, approximately 8 miles north of Placerville, within an hour's drive from Sacramento and a 2.5 hour drive from San Francisco. The property boasts stunning views to the west with spectacular sunsets and a full view of the night sky. At 2,200 feet in elevation Reverie has hot summers (average temps in the low 90s in July and August) and mild winters, enabling a bountiful year-round garden and a multitude of fruit trees to flourish. Nearly the entire property is shaded by large heritage oaks as well as a diverse mix of conifers, giving visitors a pleasant respite from the heat in the summer, vivid foliage in the fall, and lots of habitat for birds and other wildlife. Two ponds and a stream provide the opportunity for swimming, fishing, or dunking your feet in the cool delicious water. We are within a burgeoning wine region and a five minute drive from the south fork of the American River as well as within close proximity to several smaller rivers and lakes in the area.

Founding members of Reverie Retreat: Tamara Johnston, Ramon Fliek, Stan Barrett and Liz Williams. Our collective skills include massage and physical therapy, yoga, acrobatics, bicycle mechanics, woodworking, gardening, design, fundraising, and IT services. We have a knack for creating delicious cuisine and enjoying great wine. We are excited and inspired to create a true retreat for family, friends, and friends we have yet to make.
