Reacting to the Past (RTTP) is a game-based, immersive and interdisciplinary curriculum that uses competition and rewards to encourage students to immerse themselves in classical texts, to create arguments based on evidence, and to engage their fellow students in lively debate. This IS a flipped classroom environment.
On May 31st, 2014 the Rocky Mountain Collaboration will be hosting our first ever Play Tester's Conference at Pikes Peak Community College-Rampart Range Campus. Attendees will test play immersive, interdisciplinary, game-based, Reacting inspired curriculum created by CCCS faculty over the past year. The purpose of this conference is not only to spread the Reacting Curriculum in the state of Colorado but also to gain much needed and valued feedback from our colleagues. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided and each participant will receive a $100 honorarium.
The maximum number of participants our grant will accommodate is 75, so please submit your registration early to reserve your space. Also, invite your colleagues as these games are interdisciplinary, making them beneficial to a broad cross section of classroom applications.

The Diet of Worms
The Diet of Worms deals with censorship, free expression, social cohesion, and individualism, all relevant contemporary themes. This game, designed for a humanist classroom, does not delve into theological debates about Grace, Scripture or Church. Instead, the game, set in the context of a committee appointed to decide whether Luther should be condemned as a heretic, looks at the philosophical, social and historical issues raised by Luther's challenge to the Holy Roman Empire.
The Elgin Marbles Controversy
Sold to the British Museum in 1816 by Lord Elgin after their controversial removal from the Parthenon in Turkish occupied Greece, The Elgin Marbles have become integral in debates regarding national identity, cultural property, and artifact preservation and display in museums for the past 200 years. Explore the legal intricacies of international property seizure and ownership.
High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Fate of Richard Nixon
This game explores the complicated political and constitutional process of impeachment and the influence of public opinion on the process. Players take on the roles of either journalists, whose goal is to drive up ratings and swing public opinion, or members of the House Judiciary Committee who will debate whether any impeachable offenses, the specific 'High Crimes and Misdemeanors', have been committed by President Nixon. The actions take place in 1974 at the culmination of the Watergate Scandal under the shadow of world observation colored by the Cold War, the Vietnam War, and the rising tide of the New Left and the Counterculture.
The Ludlow Massacre
On April 20, 1914, Colorado National Guardsmen opened fire on a camp of coal mine strikers in Southern Colorado. When the smoke cleared, twenty six people had died including two women and eleven children who had burned to death in their tents. Capturing nation-wide attention, the Ludlow Massacre became the rallying cry for labor union leaders working toward necessary improvements in the conditions and treatment of laborers, giving rise to labor unions in the United States. Explore the dynamic confrontation between laborers, employers, unionizers, government, and the "haves and have-nots" of the United States in the early 20th Century.
Regensberg
In 1215, the Catholic Church exerted its authority over Europe. The Edicts of the Fourth Lateran Council placed controls on the clergy and codified the second-class status of the Jewish population. In the Germanic trading city of Regensburg, the religious and secular authorities must decide how to enforce these new mandates while balancing the personal and professional concerns of their population
