Summer Youth Theater Camps 2014
Teachers, mentors and workshop presenters from Ohio Valley Summer Theater leading two concurrent summer camps during a three week period, culminating in a free public performance inviting friends and family. June 9-27. Schedule: M-F, 15 days, 3 hrs day. (45 hrs instruction) Morning: 9-11:30 Rising Grades 2-6. Afternoon: 12:00-3:00 Rising Grades 7-12. Age appropriate workshops with master subject trainers in areas pertaining to skills needed for final show piece such as movement, puppetry, mask, improvisation, voice, auditioning, monologues, playwriting, stage combat and/or swordplay. Two performances on final day: locally-written play produced by younger grades; self-selected mixed piece showcase by older campers. On the basis of in-camp interest, older campers may select 'tech track' including professional theater training and running sound/lights for performances. On interview, returning teens may apply for leadership mentor roles with camper-ship subsidy. This year's camp will feature a workshop with visiting director of OVST's 2014 mainstage summer show "The King and I", movement specialist, professor of theater at UNCG and former Athenian Ms. Denise Gabriel. Spots are limited. Apply early!
