The Art + Science of Hoop Dance
There is a profound difference between stringing together a technical routine and expressing yourself through movement. That being said, without technical prowess you limit your vocabulary. Using experiential learning techniques, and rigorous coaching Matthias Elliott and Rainbow Michael will help you tackle both artistry and technique.
A master of break reversals, off-body manipulation and a suite of core movement techniques, Matthias will challenge and inspired to step beyond your comfort zone and start to break through into new avenues of exploration
Matthias will help you look at your movements from an aesthetic perspective and develop personal style in your dance. How do you move? How do you interface with the hoop and carry yourself in your movements? What components of your personality are expressed in your movement? Often we overlook small details that completely change our style. How do you want to dance? How do you want to express?
In this Class Rainbow will be exploring a variety of Isolations and off body hoop movement to help tap you into the universal matrix that surrounds you and connects you to the universe at large. We will also study planetary movements as a way to learn new patterning and to be able to play with the different energies that each day offers us. As always we will have a light meditation and breathing practice before we begin. We can also play with Twins and merge into both sides of the brain.
Hooping.org's 2014 Male Hooper of the Year, Matthias has been practicing, performing and teaching hoop dance for 6 years. He draws upon a background in East Asian philosophy, partner dancing, martial and performance arts as well as scientific principles to develop a style that is uniquely his own. In addition to hoop dance he has a lifetime of artistic study ranging from dramatic arts to photography and conceptual installation art.
Rainbow Michael : has been teaching Hoops for 8 years and has taught Hooping all over the world and many festivals including Hoop Camp, Hoop Convergence, Sacred Circularities and a variety of other flow festivals. Rainbow Specializes in teaching through Sacred Geometry as a blueprint to identify the possible movements of the Hoop.
