While it's easy to think it's no longer the case, the status quo towards women today is still flawed. The Making of a Bahu examines the marginalization of women, specifically Indian women in the role of daughter-in-law. Join Aavegh as we explore:
- The expected role of daughters-in-law and the effect these expectations have on a daughter-in-laws self-concept.
- Our role in perpetuating these expectations.
- What we can do to change the dialogue.

Let's educate ourselves through art, dance, and conversation as Aavegh brings to life the findings of soon to be published research, entitled Making of the Hollow Bahu: The Web of Influence on Bahu Disempowerment by Mara Berkland, Ph.D. and Supna Jain, J.D.

The production will be followed by an audience participation question and answer session with the researchers, choreographers, and dancers to further explore the concepts highlighted during the production.

Please note, the recommended age for the production is 14 and up.

Proceeds from the production will be donated to Aavegh's local nonprofit partner Bridge Communities. The mission of Bridge Communities is to transition homeless families to self-sufficiency by working with partners to provide mentoring, housing, and supportive services. The adopted families are usually homeless mothers and their children who have been victims of domestic violence or poverty.
