Intro to Herbalism and Foraging (Daylong Intensive)
During this all day, outdoor workshop, well cover all the basic information you need to start foraging and using herbs in the Pacific Northwest. Absolute beginner to intermediate levels are welcome! Participants will receive a comprehensive worksheet with class materials and resources.
The curriculum for the day includes: Beginners plant ID tips, tricks and resources Identification and uses of major pacific northwest plants Tips for foraging edible and medicinals Basics of using foraged plants for medicine (preparations, dosages, resources) Review at the end of the day
The workshop will take place in Discovery Park. There is no foraging allowed in Seattle Parks, so we will be looking only. I chose Discovery Park to host this workshop because of its centrality for those who dont have cars, and for its diversity. That said, the plants learned can be found in lowland forest, coastal and field areas in Western Washington.
The class is offered by The Adiantum School of Plant Medicine, taught by local herbalist Natalie Hammerquist. In addition to being a clinical western herbalist, Natalie is also very knowledgeable about identifying local plants. She has been harvesting plants in the area for food and medicine for 8 years.
NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS: Please bring a lunch, and be ready to do a lot of walking throughout the day. Be ready for the weather (rain or shine). And bring lots of water! Please contact me through our website (www.adiantumschool.com) if you are planning to show up and pay in cash so I can get you the pertinent information.
