Tapping The Velvet
The L-Project Los Angeles is proud to partner with Unleash Your Fire Performance Academy for Women to launch its FIRST POP-UP WORKSHOP in Los Angeles, TAPPING THE VELVET, a six-week, erotic performance-based and exploratory workshop for Queer Women of Color (transwomen welcome) that culminates in a live performance. Taught by Vixen Noir.
Historically, Women of Color, and even more so, Queer Women of Color have been eroticized, exoticized, stigmatized, objectified and oppressed in our sexuality. Tapping the Velvet is a fun, and sometimes challenging workshop that uses theatre, improvisation, dance-movement, burlesque, storytelling, visualization, writing, trust and intimacy exercises to help Queer Women of Color tap into, reclaim and celebrate Erotic Power as our rightful sensual legacy! The workshop further examines the idea that Erotic Power is not only about sexual pleasure, but is also a source that has the ability to heal and transform our lives. In the words of Audre Lorde, the erotic offers a well of replenishing and provocative force to the woman who does not fear its revelation, nor succumb to the belief that sensation is enough. Tapping the Velvet offers the safety of a women-of-color-only space thats supportive, life-affirming and sexy as hell! The culminating performance will be a part of Frida Fest, L-Project Los Angeles's annual art and music festival honoring the life and legacy of Frida Kahlo.

PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THIS WORKSHOP
To participate in this workshop for the discounted price of $149, you must be willing to have your image photographed and videotaped throughout the duration of the course, including classes, rehearsals and the final performance. This includes brief videotaped interviews at the beginning, during and after the performance to document your experience. This documentation is to be used for promotional purposes of the academy only and will not disclose confidential information or sensitive matter without your permission. You will be required to sign a release form.
