Workshop - Adobe Architecture and Construction
Corrales Historical Society is pleased to present this great workshop!
Get down and dirty in the mud with this hands-on experience Adobe Architecture & Construction Workshop!
You'll learn everything you've ever wanted to know about how this centuries-old building technique is done. Adobe means mudbrick in Spanish and is made from earth and often organic materials such as straw.
The workshop includes a presentation on the history of adobe architecture, and instruction in techniques for creating adobe blocks and in adobe block construction.
The instructor is Franciso Uviña, Director of the Historic Preservation and Regionalism, School of Architecture and Planning, at UNM. Francisco has had extensive experience in adobe construction in New Mexico as well as in Peru. Old clothes are advised (no shorts) and closed shoes are required. Gloves, hat, safety glasses, sunblock, and note-taking materials are recommended.
The fee for the workshop is $80 for CHS members and $95 for non-members. It is limited to 15 participants. A sandwich lunch will be provided.
Special note:
Mudding and Maintenance Day at the Old San Ysidro Church is the next day, Sunday, April 30, from 9 am to 4 pm. Workshop participants can come and help demonstrate mudding techniques they have learned and help with various other projects. CHS Docents will provide breakfast and lunch refreshments to all who join in the fun on Sunday!
