"Brighton Beach Memoirs" a play by Neil Simon
OPENING NIGHT--Champagne Reception immediately following performance.

Brighton Beach Memoirs, a Tony award winning coming of age comedy, written by Neil Simon will be performed May 12th at 8 pm at the St Helena Presbyterian church, 1428 Spring Street, under the direction of Sharie Renault.

Chris Bezanson gives a highly entertaining portrayal of Eugene, a teenager and narrator in the play, who looks back at his teenage years in the late 1930s.  Throughout the play Eugene searches for his identity, sharing passages from his journal with events of his daily life with the audience: As if things werent bad enough And now this! Liver and cabbage for dinner! A Jewish mediaeval torture!

Elaine Jennings, acclaimed for her role as Juliana in a 2015 Upstage NV production The Other Place,  gives a heart rending performance as Kate, Eugenes mother, whose job is to keep food on the table, and a watchful eye on her sons.

Alan Scheinder with absorbing depth performs Stanley, older brother and role model for Eugene. The patriarch of the family, Jack, works as a cutter in the garment business, cab driver, and salesman to make ends meet. Jack Stuart intelligently portrays him. Blanche, Eugenes widowed aunt and Kates younger sister, out of necessity moves in to the Jerome household with her two daughters.  She will be played by Lauren Haugen the first weekend of the run and Clay Connaway the last two weekends. Each actress gives a different approach to the role, both captivating and insightful. Janet Viader, plays an honest and graceful Nora, Blanches older daughter, who dreams of becoming a dancer on Broadway.  Anne Haynie Gullung, as Laurie, Blanches youngest, takes in all the family drama with a discerning eye.
