Age of Extinction
Age of Extinction, a new play written by Willie Johnson and directed by Ashley Brooke Monroe, is a clown show about gentrification. It deals with topics as as wide-ranging as ecosystem fragmentation, the charm of independent bookstores, the banality of romance, and cats. It features the ghost of a hamster and a wonderful joke about anarchists. It's funny and timely and unlike anything you've ever seen before.
Age of Extinction centers around a volatile animal lover named Grundy who is grappling with the recent death of her mother and the transformation of her rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. As Grundy becomes increasingly alienated from her urban ecosystem, she begins to see how the forces transforming and destroying her neighborhood are linked to the forces destroying ecosystems all over the world. Reminder: this is a comedy.
