Write on the Money - How to Write Winning Grant Proposals with Stacey Murphy
Aspiring grant writers! Want to learn what makes for a good grant proposal? Ever wonder why some funders love your project but others arent interested? If you are new to grant writing, or if you or your program staff struggle with how to translate your program ideas into fundable proposals, this workshop may help you. This workshop will provide an overview of basics around grant proposal writing and preparation through a combination of pre-writing exercises, interactive learning, and online techniques. We will discuss: What makes an organization or program grant ready? Eros, Pathos and Logos: Why Aristotle would have been a great grant writer Basic parts of a proposal, including the budget How NOT to get funded - details matter Why a successful fit with a funder is like a successful prom date Some resources for finding funders Grant workshops often devote whole days or multiple days to these topics. This morning-long session will provide basic tips to get you started and allow time for questions. Bio Stacey Murphy has been an independent grant writing consultant since 2012, assisting a variety of not for profits and municipalities in upstate New York to get funding to assist those they serve. She writes proposals that gain awards ranging from a few hundred dollars to over a million and has experience as a writer and as a grant reviewer. She is a member of the Grant Professionals Association. Her prior 17-year history in nonprofit administration contributes to her success in grant seeking, program development, and project management.
