IMAGINING FREEDOM: A CALL TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING
The Survive & Thrive Advocacy Center is hosting an art show and fundraiser on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts in Tallahassee, FL.

In late 2016, STAC issued a Call to Artists for submissions of creative expressions and interpretations of the global and local realities that are breeding grounds modern-day slavery. Friday evenings event will be a public display of the submitted works and will recognize and award prizes to the artists for their contributions.

Last year, internationally renowned, local artist Stuart Riordan exhibited a collection of her fine art paintings and sculpture that depicted the harsh realities of human trafficking and the promise of freedom. This year, she will award prizes and unveil and donate a new work she has created specially for this event. Ann Kozeliski, also will donate one of her evocative Japanese sumie pieces. Both will be available for bid in the silent auction, proceeds to benefit STAC. This event caps off Human Trafficking Awareness Month in our area, according to Pamela C. Marsh, STAC Board President, We are immensely grateful to LeMoyne, Stuart Riordan, and to all of our community partners for uniting with STAC to inspire and incite us all to action to end human trafficking.

At this show, a powerful exhibit of photographs by Kay Chernush also will be unveiled. STAC has brought the works to Tallahassee in partnership with ArtWorks for Freedom, http://www.artworksforfreedom.org/, a group that uses the power of art to raise awareness about modern day slavery and human trafficking. Art has a storytelling power that can capture the emotional complexities of social issues like human trafficking: it also allows us to go deeper in our understanding of why modern slavery takes place and how we can stop it, says Kay Chernush, President & Artistic Director of ArtWorks for Freedom.

The art show hopes to do exactly that by enhancing the communitys awareness of the issue of human trafficking and also to build recognition of Survive and Thrive Advocacy Center as the areas only agency created solely to support human trafficking survivors and work with others in the community who are assisting these victims.
