Pop Rocks: the Puppetlesque Revue at The Venue
Come see a hilarious blend of puppetry and burlesque in Pop Rocks: The Puppetlesque Revue, March 17, 2017 at The Venue (511 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL). The show costs $18 ($15 in advance through Brown Paper Tickets) and begins at 10:00 pm.
A variety of area favorites will blend puppets into their comedy or dance acts, whether on their hand or through their entire body. To animate is to bring something to life. So by its very definition, puppetry is one of the oldest forms of animation, says creative director Daniel Weird, whose Gainesville-based DolphinWizard Puppetry has encompassed everything from sock puppets to giant monster suits. The show also includes comic- and cartoon-inspired acts.
The show isn't just a loving tribute to beloved characters; like many shows at The Venue, it will be a sexy experience for audiences as well with a darkly comedic twist. "Burlesque's roots are in vaudeville a type of entertainment that challenged the morals and rules of the upper class and gave voice to the underrepresented and even freakish people," says Rachel Wayne, Creative Director of DreamQuilt. "In our contemporary tumultuous world, vaudeville is once again relevant and even empowering."
