Writing To Save Your Life Workshop
Veteran journalist and critically acclaimed author Michele Weldon will share specific tips and tools on how to jump start your writing, improve your storytelling across platforms, polish work you have completed or brainstorm ideas for new work.

The four-hour seminar includes dynamic instruction, interactive prompts and an opportunity to engage with the author as well as other writers. The workshop will address specifically prioritizing ideas; observation tools; writing description and action; story flow and organization; sentence and paragraph structure; time management; handling criticism and ways to share and publish your work. You will have time to write and share your work briefly.

"This workshop is about getting down to the business of making your work the best it can be in a supportive, creative space," Weldon said.

Weldon's recent memoir, Escape Points, won first place in memoir at The Great Midwestern Book Festival; was a finalist at Society of Midland Authors Annual Book Awards and Eric Hoffer Book Awards; and was named one of the best nonfiction books of 2015 by Booklist.

"Writing has a transforming, spiritual, emotional element. And I appreciate the advice and lessons you gave me to help me to see how to write more clearly," wrote Eileen, a Writing To Save Your Life Workshop participant.

She taught journalism for 18 years on the undergraduate and graduate levels at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Her work appears in outlets from New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Cosmopolitan, Chicago Tribune, the Guardian, CNN, Slate, Narratively and Los Angeles Times to Medium, Thrive Global and Huffington Post. She has competed as a live storyteller with The Moth and more.
