Secret Death Of Puppets
Join us for a free presentation of Sybil Kempson's "The Secret Death Of Puppets" at Jefferson Market Library!
Featuring: Tessa Barlow-Ochorn as WOMAN TO THE SEE / SCIENTIST Allison Benko as VISITOR / TRAVELER Lukas Papenfusscline as BISHOP / INNKEEPER
Live music by the accoladed Brooklyn-based composer Grace Oberhofer.
The first playlet features a Bishop and his female acolyte who have resolved to summon dangerous spirits from another world. When a visitor arrives, their relationship, routine, and mission is threatened. In the second playlet, a traveler arrives at an isolated inn, encountering a venomous innkeeper and a mysterious bird.
SYBIL KEMPSON is among the most progressive New York playwrights working since the new millennium. Her 2005 work "The Secret Death of Puppets" is a unique set of playlets that examine intimate moments of power, clashes between creation and faith, and the demands placed upon outsiders. Relevant to todays distrust of outsiders and power wars that ensue, this piece asks audience members to examine their own threshold for abuse. Through an experiential evening featuring poetic language, mixed media, live music, and creative use of space, we aim to address travel through time and space, and the difficulties of human communication.
Thursday, December 15th @ 9pm. Jefferson Market Library, West Village, NYC.
This performance will be approximately one hour in length.
