Tame Your Inbox! with Matteo Willyamz
In today's information-explosion work environment many people have developed a love/hate relationship with their email accounts.
Although this useful technology provides instant and inexpensive access to people and projects that are important to us, the sheer volume of messages can be difficult to manage. Challenges include inundation with too many emails, and expectations that instant access equals entitlement to instant responses.
Free yourself from the inefficient tyranny of email expectations by joining veteran technology-presenter Matteo Wyllyamz (aka @mouselink) for this informative discussion of important email management tips, tricks, and techniques.
Create a more efficient strategy for controlling the barrage of incoming messages and notifications that includes but may not be limited to:
Turning off or limiting notifications
Restricting how frequently you check your inbox
Utilizing stars, labels, filters, and Gmail's "Priority Inbox"
Relying on email search over using folders
Creatively leveraging auto-responders and out-of-office replies
Moving message threads to Twitter, Facebook, Slack, or text messaging
Scheduling outgoing emails for strategic timing
Unsubscribing and "yesterboxing"
Creating IFTTT (If This Then That) alerts
This two hour discussion will focus on Gmail, but many of the principles may be applied to other providers and software.
Your goal with this comprehensive approach will be to experience less email-related anxiety so that you can focus on your work more efficiently and improve your job performance or your bottom line.
Note that this is not a class on how to use email. Although the discussion will focus on Gmail, an account is not required to attend. It is recommended but not mandatory that attendees bring an Internet-ready device to the workshop, as a wi-fi data connection will be available and all materials (handouts) for this seminar will be delivered electronically via the Internet.
