Kill the Editor
KILL THE EDITOR a play written and directed by Aren Haun
EXIT STUDIO THEATRE 156 Eddy St. March 23 - April 8 Thurs-Sat 8pm
Tickets available at the door: $25
Synopsis:
Ben lands his dream job editing a documentary film for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The catch is he's only got one week to completely re-edit the five-hour version down to size and Cameron: the self-obsessed, egomaniacal filmmaker, doesn't want to touch a frame. Things get even more complicated when Libby, the previous editor, returns and threatens to hold the master copy for ransom.
Cast and Crew:
Aren Haun (playwright) received his MFA in Playwriting from Columbia University in 2010. He has been creating his own work for over fifteen years; writing, directing and acting in his productions with his own theater company. His short plays have been produced in cities around the world, including New York City, London, Chicago, and San Francisco. Two short plays, A Walk in the Park and Standing Room Only, have been published in Smith & Kraus's annual anthology of Best Ten-Minute Plays, and most recently his play The Lake was included in the book One-Minute Plays: a Practical Guide to Tiny Theater, published by Routledge Press. He currently teaches Playwriting at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts in San Francisco.
Josh Schell (Cameron) was last seen in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Shotgun Players). Other stage credits include A Dreamplay (Cutting Ball), The Nether (San Francisco Playhouse), Ada and the Memory Engine (Central Works), Fifth of July (Aurora), Our Town (Shotgun Players), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Eugene O'Neill Foundation), A Lie of the Mind (Boxcar), In the Red and Brown Water (Marin Theatre Company), and understudy company credits with Cal Shakes and Berkeley Rep. Independent films include For the Coyotes, The Whistler, Pleased to Meet You, and Before the Cabin Burned Down, among others. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California's School of Dramatic Arts.
Kathleen McHatton (Libby) is thrilled to be part of this production at the EXIT. Her recent roles include Tess in Six Degrees of Separation (Custom Made Theatre Company) and Colleen in Black River Falls (Perfomers Under Stress). Catch her next in Twins at PianoFight.
Ben Elie (Ben) was born in Berkeley, grew up in France, and studied Theatre & Film in Dublin, Ireland. He currently lives in Oakland, and sings into the bay breeze throughout his bike ride from Embarcadero to his work in the Presidio. Even though his age 8 'Doomed Rabbit' part in Fantastic Mr Fox has been hard to top, some of his favorite roles include Gulliver in an adaptation of Gulliver's Travels, Puck in A Midsummer's Night Dream, and a host of otherworldly characters in a series of Samuel Beckett plays. He's enjoyed countless hours playing drums, making videos, an audiobook, and messes. Ben is thrilled to make Kill the Editor his San Francisco stage debut!
