Asher Child: In Concert
(Recommended for ages 13+ due to themes of depression, suicide, bullying, homophobia...)
What do you get when you mix the pressure of adolescence and the beauty of a fairytale? Truth. Asher Child, a new musical, is a look into the ways that fairytales are timeless, and exist in a contemporary way underneath every story of todays modern world. With a book by Pyper Hayden and music and lyrics by Eli Melmon, this is not your typical Cinderella story.
Produced by Nanso 7 Productions, join us on January 7th and 8th at the Dragon Theatre in Redwood City for the first ever concert and staged reading of Asher Child.
Featuring the wonderfully talented Makena Reynolds, Sharon Lita, Eric Putterman, Audrey Forrester, Kate Lincoln, Ryan Sammonds, Cameryn Laird, Nic Wratten, Rene Guyon, and Laura Cracas.

Eli Melmon, on creating Asher Child
"After seeing a dear friend stifling tears in class one morning, I peered deeper into her life situation, realizing the similarities to a classic fairytale. That night I wrote the first number, "Cinderella Cries. From one single spark of inspiration, a musical was born. I continued to write numerous songs, and contacted Pyper Hayden to help create a backbone, and write the book of the show. Although this is neither Pypers nor my first experience writing a musical, it has been a very unique journey creating a new work out of experiences from the lives of those around us. The show is chock full of heartache, love, and, even more important than love, the strength of healthy, supportive friendships."
Pyper Hayden, on creating Asher Child
"Eli called me up one day with this phenomenal idea for a new musical- something based primarily on the fairytales we've always been told growing up, but also fresh, new, relatable... I was hooked. Writing an accompanying book to a score already in a primitive stage was not an easy feat. I'll admit, I procrastinated beginning my work for about half a year! However, the book itself was easily written after I let it stew inside of me for a while, rather than on the page. Asher Child is especially dear to me because it stands as a social commentary; focusing on the tough parts of high school that are prominent but often not discussed openly. Asher Child is a beautiful mix of something old and something new- it's a spin on a classic, a tragedy, a comedy- a story worth telling."
